Agnes Macphail was a distinguished Canadian political figure, becoming the first woman to be elected to the House of Commons of Canada. Born on March 24, 1890, in Campbellford, Ontario, she was a member of the United Farmers of Ontario and later the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. Macphail's political career spanned from 1921 to 1940, during which she championed social justice, women's rights, and peace. She passed away on February 13, 1954. more
