Pope Benedict XIV, born Prospero Lorenzo Lambertini on March 31, 1675, in Bologna, Italy, served as the 247th pope from August 17, 1740, until his death on May 3, 1758. Known as the 'Scholar Pope,' he was renowned for his intellectual achievements, reformist policies, and diplomatic skills. He promoted the integration of science, art, and theology, reformed Church rituals, and improved relations with European monarchies. His major work, 'On the Papal Ceremonies,' remains influential.
