“I'm a patriot, and I think democracy is the best system available. It's very flawed, but it works better than anything else.” ThinkingDemocracyAvailablePatriotFlawed Author:Jay Roach
“Majorities can be wrong, majorities can overrule rights of minorities. If majorities ruled, we could still have slavery. 80% of the population once enslaved 20% of the population. While run by majority rule that is ok. That is very flawed notion of what democracy is. Democracy has to take into account several things - proportionate requirements of people, not just needs of the majority, but also needs of the minority. Majority, especially in societies where the media manipulates public opinion, can be totally wrong and evil. People have to act according to conscience and not by majority vote.” PeopleIfsNeedsStillsRunningEvilOpinionDemocracyRightsMediaConscienceVoteAccountsSlaveryMajorityNotionPopulationMinoritiesRequirementsPublic OpinionManipulateFlawedDemocracies HaveEvil PeopleMajority RuleMajority Vote Author:Howard Zinn
“I got to dislike parties, like Jefferson and Madison. I think they're harmful. But the system is flawed so badly. I like what Plato said, long ago. Democracy is fit only for a small country. Can't survive in a large country.” ThinkingLongSaidCountryPartyDemocracyFitDislikeLong AgoPlatoFlawedMadisonSmall Countries Author:Jack Kevorkian
“Take the US. Women were not even able to vote until 90 ago, at about the same time they gained the right in Afghanistan. Rights of former slaves were very limited until the 1960s, and in some ways still are. In these and other domains there has been progress in democracy, though still seriously flawed. In other dimensions - the control of concentrated wealth over the political process, for example, things have gotten much worse in recent years. And there is much more, in both directions.” WayYearsHas BeensStillsAblePoliticalProcessWealthDemocracyRightsProgressExampleVoteSlaveFormerDimensionsAfghanistanDomainFlawed1960s Author:Noam Chomsky
