Dan Morgenstern (born October 24, 1929) was an influential American jazz critic, historian, and author. He served as director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University for 27 years, making significant contributions to jazz scholarship. Morgenstern wrote for major publications including DownBeat and won multiple Grammy Awards for his liner notes, establishing himself as a leading authority in jazz criticism.
