Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, was an influential English statesman and historian. He served as Chancellor of the Exchequer and later Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster under King Charles I. His political career was marked by his close association with the monarch and his involvement in the English Civil War. Hyde is also renowned for his historical writings, particularly his comprehensive account of the Civil War.
