Sanal Edamaruku (born May 26, 1955) is a prominent Indian rationalist and atheist activist, known for challenging supernatural claims and religious superstitions. He serves as president of the Indian Rationalist Association and co-founded the International Rationalist Organization. Edamaruku gained fame for publicly debunking alleged miracles, such as the 'drinking idol' phenomenon, through scientific demonstrations. In 2012, he faced legal threats from the Catholic Church in India for criticizing a 'bleeding Jesus' statue, leading him to relocate to Finland. His work promotes critical thinking and scientific skepticism, making him a key figure in the global rationalist movement.
