Simon Bolivar, born on July 24, 1783, and died on December 17, 1830, was an outstanding leader of the South American independence movement, known as the 'Liberator'. He led the independence wars in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, successfully overthrowing Spanish colonial rule and establishing the Republic of Gran Colombia.
