Stanley Nelson Jr. (born June 7, 1951) is an American documentary filmmaker known for his work on African American history and social justice. His acclaimed films include 'The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution' and 'Freedom Summer.' He has won multiple Emmy and Peabody awards. Nelson co-founded Firelight Media to support filmmakers of color. His documentaries combine rigorous research with powerful storytelling, making him a key figure in preserving and sharing overlooked histories.
