Judy Bonds was an American environmental activist recognized for her dedication to protecting the Appalachian Mountains from coal mining. Born on August 27, 1952, in Kentucky, she passed away on January 3, 2011. Bonds gained prominence in the environmental movement following a coal slurry spill that flooded her home and contaminated her water supply. She fought for stricter regulations on coal mining and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the environmental and health impacts of mining. more
