William C. Oates was a prominent politician and military commander from Alabama, serving as the Governor of Alabama. Born on November 30, 1835, he passed away on September 9, 1910. During the American Civil War, Oates served as a Confederate army commander, notably for his leadership in the Battle of Tullahoma. After the war, he shifted to politics and served as the governor of Alabama from 1886 to 1889. more
