Born in Cambridge to an academic family, she studied at Oxford but left without a degree. Her notable works include 'The Towers of Trebizond' and 'They Were Defeated.' Macaulay never married but had a secret love affair. Her writing often explored faith, morality, and women's independence. She died of a heart attack in 1958 at age 77. more
