Quote by Lale Gül

“A number of years ago, 1944, Friedrich Hayek wrote this very influential book, The Road to Serfdom. He worried that the creation of the welfare state, a strong government helping individuals would lead to authoritarianism. We now know that he was wrong. If we look around the world, populism, authoritarianism is associated not with government doing too much, but doing too little. By doing too little, it has given rise to discontent that threatens our democracy and threatens our ability to respond to the major challenges that we face.”

“You think, taxing the rich will magically fix everything, it won't - the money would still have to go through hungry politicians. Until we introduce proper training, testing and licencing in politics, like in medicine, to winnow out the incompetent candidates, nothing will change.”

Septembre 1939”

“I asked the feedlot manager why they didn't just spray the liquefied manure on neighboring farms. The farmers don't want it, he explained. The nitrogen and phosphorus levels are so high that spraying the crops would kill them. He didn't say that feedlot wastes also contain heavy metals and hormone residues, persistent chemicals that end up in waterways downstream, where scientists have found fish and amphibians exhibiting abnormal sex characteristics.”

“The Man of Wrath says he never met a young woman who spent her money that way before; I remarked that it must be nice to have an original wife; and he retorted that the word original hardly described me, and that the word eccentric was the one required. Very well, I suppose I am eccentric, since even my husband says so; but if my eccentricities are of such a practical nature as to result later in the biggest cauliflowers and tenderest lettuce in Prussia, why then he ought to be the first to rise up and call me blessed.”

“So they really put in a bid on the piece of property we’ve been salivating over for the last four years?” Airiana asked. “Well, Lexi’s been salivating over. I presume they plan on joining the two properties.” “That’s the plan,” Lexi said. She couldn’t hide her smile and this time she didn’t try. “The soil is really good. There’s a very large section of forest that is just awesome as well. I’ve been talking to Thomas about possibly getting a few llamas. The manure is excellent for plants.” Airiana groaned. “It’s too early in the morning to be talking about manure, Lexi, especially in such an enthusiastic tone.” -Airiana & Lexi”
