Peter Levi (1931-2000) was a renowned English poet, archaeologist, and academic who served as Oxford Professor of Poetry from 1984 to 1989. Born on May 16, 1931, Levi was a multifaceted figure who combined poetic artistry with archaeological scholarship. He was once a Catholic priest before leaving the priesthood. His poetry, characterized by classical learning and keen observation of nature, reflected his deep love for the Mediterranean world.
