Riley Quotes

“I have something for you.” “Yeah? What? Is it shiny?” They both waited until Indigo had jogged away before resuming their conversation. “So,” Riley asked, “what have you got for me?” Taking his hand, she placed it palm-down over her heart. It would hurt like a bitch, she thought, but he was hers to protect as much as she was his. “Me.” And she opened up her soul, laid herself bare.”

“I don't need a mate,” she muttered, staring up at the bright circle of the early autumn moon. “But can't you send me a nice, sexy, strongmale to dance with? Pretty please?” She hadn't had a lover for close to eight months now, and it was starting to hurt on every level. “He doesn't even have to be smart, just good between the sheets.” Good enough to unsnap the tension in her body, allow her to function again. Because sex wasn't simply about pleasure for a cat like her—it was about affection, about trust, about everything good. “Though right this second, I'd take plain old hot sex.” That was when Riley walked out of the shadows. “Got an itch, kitty?” Snapping to her feet, she narrowed her eyes, knowing he had to have deliberately stayed downwind in order to sneak up on her. “Spying?” “When you're talking loud enough to wake the dead?” She swore she could feel steam coming out her ears.”

“A hand in her hair, wrenching back her head. "What's my name?" She scratched trails down his back. He didn't even wince. "My name, kitty. Say my name." "Mr. Mud Stick, Muddie for short," she said, even as she rubbed herself against the hard thrust of his denim-covered erection, the roughness of the fabric an exquisite sensation. She would've liked naked skin even more, but he wasn't budging. "Say it, or no cock for you today." Her mouth fell open. "Fuck you." "You'll be doing that shortly.”

“Smiling, she went for his throat and almost had him, when—using a move that was all sorts of illegal—he flipped her again so her front pressed into the leaf-laden ground, her wrists still locked in his iron grip and pinned above her head. “Cheater.” “So says the woman who tried to kick my balls into my throat,” he pointed out, even as he licked the salt off the skin of her neck in a lazy and highly provocative move.”

“Her eyes narrowed when no one bothered to introduce themselves. Even her father just gave a curt nod and kissed Mercy on the cheek before going to his mate. She looked at Bas. “Did you four gang up on Riley?” Absolute silence in the kitchen except for her mother ’s exasperated breath. “Michael T. Smith, I told you to leave the boy alone.” The “boy” held her tighter against him, obviously not the least bit worried. “I’m fine, Mrs. Smith. And I have a sister, too.” Lia turned her gaze on Riley. “Good God, Mercy. You brought another one into the family?”

“Because if I don't, Ember will go without me and get herself killed! Riley snapped, and finally looked in my direction. Those piercing gold eyes met mine across the room, the shadow of Riley's true form staring at me.I shivered as he held my gaze. Because she doesn't know St. George like I do, he went on. She hasn't seen what they're capable of. She doesn't know what they do to our kind if we're discovered. I do. And I'm not going to let that happen.”

“Riley took a deep breath. "Yeah," he said, nodding. "You're right. We can't stop. We can't let this continue. The organization will do horrible things to their hatchlings and undesirables even if there are no rogues to take the fall. If I don't keep fighting Talon, who will? "I will," I said softly. He chuckled. "I don't know, Firebrand. Think you can handle a dozen hormonal teenage dragons if I go down someday? " I lived with an obnoxious twin brother for years," I responded. " I think I could manage." He arched a dubious eyebrow, and I sobered. " But that's not going to happen, Riley, because you're not going to die. This work, what your doing now, is too important. Someone has to stand against Talon, to show our kind what the organization is really like. And your not the only one who has a chance." I raised my chin, my voice firm. " You can't let them win. We can't let them win. And I'm going to do whatever it takes for us to succeed." Riley was motionless, watching me with gold eyes, and I held his stare. " I'm not walking away from this," I told him. " Or you. I'll keep fighting, however long it takes.”

“Don't you know who I am?” Abby asked, not answering the girl's question. “You're Abby, a fugitive that has been on the run ever since you left the orphanage.” she responded. “And that won't bother you? who are you?” she asked inquisitively. “Riley is the name or RI for my nickname and no, that won’t bother me! In fact, can I join you?” she answered. Abby stared at her, “Join me? In running for my life?” she asked, shocked. “Yes, if my name did not remind you, I am a fugitive too!” she declared. “Well, ok?” she said.”

“Who are you?” asked Riley The girl let out her breath and Riley did not see what she was holding. The the girl raised both eyebrows. “That's good” she whispered to herself. Riley could still hear her. “What's good?” Riley asked the girl; she shook her head letting pieces of dirt and loose strands of hair fly out of her ponytail. Nothing, never mind.” She said, still not answering Riley's question. Riley let out a hard sigh. “Both of your answers don’t answer my questions.” Riley said, angry the girl wrinkled her nose. “Sorry, I am Abby, a worldwide fugitive, how I am alive I do not know.” Riley's eyebrows raised at the mere senses “I am Abby a worldwide fugitive.”

“So, do you remember anything about your par-.” Riley started but Abby cut her off. “I thought you said you were going to stop asking about my parents.” declared Abby “I was then asked a new question...” Abby stopped, and Riley was about ten feet from her when she knotted Abby stopped Riley spun towed her. “You good?” asked Riley. “Just... listen, I was five when they died, and I don’t remember them very much." replied Abby. Riley opened her mouth to say something but closed it just as fast, Abby chuckled. “Funny thing is, I do not even remember their names, where they lived, my birthday, if I have any family members still alive...or how my parents died. Ok, there, that is all I know, now stop asking, do not forget I have a gun and a knife still on me so do not make me mad.” Abby said.”

“He had never thought in his wildest imagination of marriage as an option for him. Never believed there was a woman out there that would make him sign up for that particular brand of madness. And, in the abstract at least, it still sounded like madness but this wasn’t about marriage, it was about Riley. With her, he knew that boyfriend-girlfriend shit wasn’t going to be enough. He had to have her locked down.”
