Aslan Maskhadov was a political leader from Chechnya, born on September 21, 1951, and died on March 8, 2005. He became the president of Chechnya following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 and led the Chechen separatist movement. His presidency was marked by conflict with the Russian Federation, including two Chechen Wars.
