Famous Dianne Duvall Quotes

“Are you bonded to another for life?” Her brow furrowed. “Do you mean romantically? Are you asking if I’m married?” “Yes.” “No.” She returned her attention to the road. “Are you?” “No.” A hint of humor entered her expressive features. “Then I don’t have to worry about some alien woman coming down and beating the crap out of me for seeing her man naked?” He laughed. Again agony shot through him. “No.” “Good.”

“She grinned. He shook his head. “You’re so beautiful, Lisa.” Her eyes lowered, betraying her disbelief. That and fear. He urged her closer until she rested against his chest, her head tucked beneath his chin. “Don’t be afraid,” he murmured. “I vow I will protect you and keep you safe.” She curled a hand around his neck, her fingers stroking him and sending little tingles down his back. “Now vow you’ll keep YOU safe. THAT will ease my fear.” He couldn’t do that. If he had to die to protect her, he would.”

“Cliff looked around for the woman he’d seen helping the others and saw no sign of her. Swearing, he tore through the wreckage in search of her. An explosion took out more of the ceiling. Rubble rained down on the other side of the pile he dug through. “Come on,” he whispered. “Where are you?” A moan reached his ears, followed by a cough. Leaping toward it, he grabbed slabs of concrete and flooring and tossed them aside, reducing the pile until he found her. Dust coated her like ash, powdering her braid and turning her skin a grayish white. She blinked up at him. Her forehead glistened with blood that oozed from a gash on one side. “It’s okay,” he told her. “I’m here to help. Don’t be afraid.” Her chin dipped in a brief nod. Another explosion hit what was left of the ground floor. Cliff swiftly leaned over to shield her as flaming bits rained down around them. As soon as it stopped, he knelt beside her. “Y-Your eyes are glowing.” “It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. I just want to help. Are you injured?” He swept his hands over her in a quick, impersonal search for injuries, concerned by the splotches of blood that marred her clothing. “Th-there’s a woman,” she said. “Sadie. Sh-she’s old. She can’t make it down the stairs.” “I already got her to safety. Are you Emma?” Surprise lit her dark brown eyes as she nodded. “I think your arm is broken, Emma. I need to bind it.” Tearing a strip of cloth from his T-shirt, he wrapped it around a deep gash on her arm. Then he tore another and—preternaturally fast—fashioned a sling. She moaned. “Sorry,” he said, knowing every movement caused her pain. Nodding, she gritted her teeth. Her lips pressed tightly together as he lifted her into his arms, spawning even more pain. “I’m sorry,” he said again as he dashed over to the elevator shaft. She looped her free arm around his neck and looked over his shoulder. Her hold tightened. “Mercenaries,” she whispered in his ear, her warm breath sending a shiver through him. “It’s okay,” he said. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll keep you safe.”

“Tonight, when the walls started closing in on me, I figured a drive in the country might be nice because I couldn’t think of anything else to do. Then I got here, you opened the door, and I thought: Oh crap, he’s going to think I’m a total stalker.” “Not at all.” Seth raised their clasped hands and grinned. “I merely assumed you wanted to see my big hands again.” Laughing, she gave his shoulder a shove. “You’re such a tease!” His heart lightened. “Admitted without shame.” “Well, I’ll forgive you,” she quipped, “because you’re letting me hold your hand.” Drawing their clasped hands closer to her face, she cupped her free hand over them and smoothed circles over his as she assumed a comical expression of amazement. “Oooooooh. So big,” she breathed. Seth laughed.”

“She tapped on the bathroom door. “Ready for clothes?” The door swung inward. Leah stared. “Holy crap.” Seth was naked, save for a towel he had wrapped around his hips. And his body was pure perfection. His arms and legs both bore beautiful, thick muscle. But not too thick like some of the bodybuilders she’d seen whose arms and legs were so bulky they couldn’t rest their arms against their sides and seemed to walk bowlegged. Seth was built more like a professional basketball player. Broad shoulders. A well-developed chest. Even his abs rippled with muscle and begged to be touched. Realizing she had been staring—aka drooling—she looked up at him. “Seriously, how are you still single?” But Seth wasn’t looking at her face. His eyes were fastened on her body. Her breath caught when a faint golden glow illuminated his dark brown irises. “I was going to ask you the same thing,” he murmured, his voice deeper than usual and husky with what she thought might be desire. A thrill rippling through her, Leah glanced down. Her eyes widened. The rain that had found its way past the awning out front had plastered her pajamas to her skin, rendering them nearly transparent.”

“Aidan ducked his head, burying his face in the crook of her neck. “Damn, you feel good,” he whispered, his deep voice hoarse with need. It only excited her more. “What do you say we forget dinner and the movie?” she whispered, her breath shortening. “How you tempt me,” he rumbled, tightening his hold. “If I tempted you as much as you tempt me,” she pronounced boldly, “we would both be naked right now.”

“Her lips twitched, then she laughed. “You are so freaking likable.” He smiled. “I feel the same about you.” “Okay then. We’re both adults. And neither one of us is physically up to engaging in anything amorous anyway, so—” “Well,” he said with a grin, “that isn’t precisely true.” Her cheeks pinkened. “Stop making me blush!” He laughed.”

“Sliding her fingers into his hair, she drew his head down and claimed his lips in a longer, deeper kiss. His arms tightened around her. His tongue delved inside to stroke her own. Desire swept through her, heating her blood and driving her to fist his hair. He groaned. And Lisa knew it wasn’t from pain this time, but need. He buried a hand in her hair and tilted her head so he could deepen the kiss even more. His other hand caressed her back and pressed her closer, reminding her that they were both naked. What the hell was she doing? She broke the kiss, stunned to realize she was practically panting with need, and stared up into emerald green. Taelon affected her in ways no other man had. “What are we doing?” she whispered. A twinkle of mischief entered his eyes. “Breaking a number of Lasaran laws.” Her lips twitched. “Aside from that.” He shook his head. “I don’t know. I’m so drawn to you, Lisa.”

“Reaching out, Lisa tentatively rested a trembling hand on his shoulder. His skin was cool and bore a light coating of perspiration. She drew her hand down over his biceps. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and something she couldn’t identify flickered in his eyes. “I’m sorry,” she said, her voice hushed while the alarm continued to blare. “Did I hurt you?” “No. It’s . . . You’re the first person who has touched me—not with intent to harm, but with kindness—in a very long time.” His words broke her heart.”
