John of Shanghai and San Francisco, originally named John Joseph Mclnerney, was a Catholic saint known for his charitable work and dedication to the poor and vulnerable. Born on June 4, 1896, in Ireland, he immigrated to the United States with his family. John dedicated his life to serving the needy, particularly in Shanghai and San Francisco, where he established numerous charitable institutions and churches to assist local residents. He passed away on July 2, 1966, in San Francisco, and was later canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
