George Stephenson Biography

George Stephenson, born on June 9, 1781, and died on August 12, 1848, was a renowned British civil engineer, often referred to as the 'Father of Railways'. His significant contributions to the field of railway construction propelled the development of railway transportation. Stephenson's most notable achievement was the design and construction of the 'Rocket' steam locomotive, the first steam locomotive to be commercially operated, which greatly advanced railway transportation. He also participated in the construction of many other important projects, such as the Liverpool and Manchester Railway.
