Turkish politician and current President of Turkey. Born on February 26, 1954, in the western Turkish city of Bursa. He joined the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 1975 and was elected Mayor of Istanbul in 1994, marking the beginning of his political career. He served as Prime Minister of Turkey from 2003 and became President in 2014 after a constitutional amendment.
