Velupillai Prabhakaran was the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a separatist organization that sought to establish an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka. Born on November 26, 1954, and killed on May 19, 2009, Prabhakaran was a central figure in the Tamil Tiger movement. He led the LTTE in a 26-year conflict against the Sri Lankan government, employing a strategy of terror and violence. Despite his role in the Tamil struggle, Prabhakaran's brutal tactics and human rights abuses have left a lasting stain on his reputation.
