Quote by Iain Reid

“He’s whispering again. I’m finding it hard to hear, and we’re standing close together. What do you want to ask? ‘If Hen/ was the same as she is now, in every way, but was a bit less physically attractive in one significant way, do you think you would have married her?’ I’m caught off guard by the question, but I don’t want to show that I am, so I don’t hesitate with my answer. Of course, I say. I love Hen. Hen’s my wife. She’ll be with me forever. I’ve always loved he. I’ll always love her. ‘ I know that. I know. I don’t doubt you love her very much. That’s not really what I’m asking, though. Are you sure you would have married her? Committed to her forever? Think about it. Does her appearance not mean anything to you? Is that what you’re saying? That what she looks like is irrelevant?’ It’s such a blonde question. It seems out of line with everything else we talked about. I feel a trickle in sweat slide down my spine. I’m saying, to me, no matter what, she would still be Hen. ‘Would she, though? Would she still be the Hen you fell in love with? What about this: What if she looked exactly as she does right now, but she was a little less intelligent? Would she still be Hen?’ That’s just stupid. It’s a stupid question. Hen is Hen.”

“Nomi flinched. "You caught his attention. You are a Grace. Congratulations." Nomi's tears spilled, burning her cheeks. "I didn't want this. This wasn't a prize, Serina. We should have a choice!" "This was my choice," Serina blazed. "No." Nomi's heart wrenched. "It isn't a choice when you don't have the freedom to say no. A yes doesn't mean the same thing when it's the only answer you're allowed!”

“Life is like a served meal God hands over to you (think of it as a plate of steak). He marinates it with life and breath. The journey will depend on how you write your recipe and cook the meal. The outcome will determine what happens to you in life...the choices and the consequences. I bet you would not want to eat a burnt meal daily. Hence, you learn to prepare the meal in a way it serves you...it can either be healthy or not!”

“Choose to stay away from people who would not let you have your moments. They will talk about their moment in your moments. They will be like yeah you bought a car but my car. You have a house but my house. They don’t let you be and enjoy what you have without them comparing or mentioning what they have that is better than yours. They don’t congratulate you, instead they interrogate you.”

“This is the standard to determine the excellence, not the comparison to existing options. Knowing the standard, imagine two situations. Starting with 123 dishes to pick for dinner. Having no standard will lead you to compare option with option. But if it happens you have the standard, irrelevant alternatives go out of the game almost immediately. Options get compared to the standard, not other options. If options are not good enough to satisfy the standard, they get out.”
