“Perspective is a most subtle discovery in mathematical studies, for by means of lines it causes to appear distant that which is near, and large that which is small.”
Quote by Leonardo da Vinci
Work
This volume represents what is believed to have been Leonardo da Vinci's comprehensive treatise on the art of painting, written during the Italian Renaissance period. The original manuscript, referred to as Libro A, has not survived in its complete form, and knowledge of its contents comes primarily from later copies and commentaries by his students and followers. The work is thought to have covered topics fundamental to the painter's craft, including perspective, anatomy, light and shadow, color theory, and the technical aspects of working in various media. Leonardo's writings on painting were influential in codifying Renaissance artistic theory, and this lost book represents an important gap in the historical record of art literature from this era. more
