Vooral bij minder geslaagde postmoderne analyses verglijdt kritisch denken naar een intentieproces, waarbij de morele veroordeling primeert op een correcte analyse. De interpretatiestrijd wordt een doelbewuste poging van een dominant discours om een ander discours weg te drukken. De stille stem wordt de verdrukte, onrechtvaardig behandelde en gediscrimineerde stem. Dan bestaat de alternatieve canon niet alleen uit vergeten, maar uit onderdrukte denkers.
