Kwame Nkrumah

Kwame Nkrumah was a Ghanaian statesman, political theorist, and president of Ghana. He is widely recognized as the founding father of modern Ghana and the leader of the Pan-African movement. Born on September 21, 1909, in Nkran, Gold Coast (now Ghana), Nkrumah studied at the University of Cambridge and became involved in the Pan-African movement. In 1947, he returned to the Gold Coast and founded the Convention People's Party (CPP), which led to the country's independence from British rule in 1957. Nkrumah served as the first Prime Minister of Ghana from 1951 to 1957 and was later elected President for Life in 1960. His presidency was marked by a strong focus on African unity and economic development, but also by political repression and the eventual coup that overthrew him in 1966. Nkrumah was exiled to Guinea and later returned to Ghana, where he was assassinated on April 27, 1972. His legacy includes his contributions to the struggle for African independence and his vision for a united Africa. more

“But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness, I want sin.' 'In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy.' 'All right then,' said the Savage defiantly, 'I'm claiming the right to be unhappy.' 'Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have syphilis and cancer; the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence. 'I claim them all,' said the Savage at last. Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome," he said.”

“It is easy to break a resolution. All you need do is do nothing about it. Words alone don't make a winner. The same way barking alone does not make a winner guard dog. Promises only last but a few days, unless they are backed up by concerted action steps. Empty promises are to a winner what a designer label is to a bad dress. Words and promises can take us far but not far enough. We have got to sit down and proactively plan for what we want out of life. While it may be right sometimes to wait on God to take us to the next level, it might as well be that God is waiting on us to make the necessary changes in our habits for Him to change our situation. Think about it; isn't success about developing and repeating progressive habits or practices over and over again?”

“Life is not a theatrical monologue. Great speeches don't take anywhere if there is no action upon it. Don't confound being solidary with solitaire.”

“La vie n'est pas un monologue théâtral. Les grands discours ne mènent nulle part, c'est juste un act s'ils ne conduisent pas pas à pas, à commencer à agir, s'il n'y a aucune action dessus. Ne confondez pas être solidaire et solitaire.”
