Charles Frankel (December 13, 1917 - May 10, 1979) was an American philosopher, educator, and public intellectual. He served as a professor of philosophy at Columbia University and held significant positions in U.S. government cultural and educational affairs. From 1965 to 1969, he served as the first Director of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
