Shimon Peres (August 2, 1923 - September 28, 2016) was the ninth President of Israel and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Born in Poland, he immigrated to British-ruled Palestine as a child and became one of Israel's most influential political figures. Peres served twice as Prime Minister and held numerous cabinet positions including Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, and Finance Minister. He played a crucial role in Israel's founding and development, particularly in building its defense capabilities. In 1994, he received the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat for their efforts in achieving peace in the Middle East. Known as Israel's "father of peace," Peres dedicated his life to promoting coexistence between Israel and its Arab neighbors. He passed away at age 93 in Tel Aviv, leaving a lasting legacy in both Israeli politics and the pursuit of Middle Eastern peace. more
