Ed Royce, born Edward Randall Royce on October 12, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, is an American politician who served as a U.S. Representative for California's 39th congressional district from 1993 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he chaired the House Foreign Affairs Committee from 2013 to 2019, known for his hawkish stance on China and strong advocacy for human rights. Royce graduated from California State University, Fullerton, with a degree in finance. Before Congress, he served in the California State Senate. He was a key figure in passing sanctions against Iran and North Korea, and promoting the Taiwan Travel Act. Royce retired from Congress in 2019.
