Kate Spade (December 24, 1962 – June 5, 2018) was an American fashion designer best known as the founder of the Kate Spade New York brand. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, she studied journalism at Arizona State University before moving to New York to work as an accessories editor. In 1993, she co-founded her eponymous brand with her husband Andy Spade, focusing on handbags and accessories known for their vibrant colors, playful patterns, and practical designs. Her work revolutionized the handbag industry, making her a household name. Despite her success, she struggled with depression and died by suicide in 2018. Her legacy endures through her brand's continued popularity and influence on modern fashion.
