Mazo de la Roche was a Canadian author renowned for her historical novels set in the early 19th century. She achieved fame with her novel 'The Stone Angel', which won the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction in 1964 and was adapted into a film. Born on January 15, 1879, in London, Ontario, she spent much of her life in the Niagara region of Ontario.
