Famous Todd Perelmuter Quotes

“All the knowledge and wisdom of the universe is in each and every one of us. You don't have to read any book or belong to any religion. This is universal and available to every way of living. Just close your eyes, quiet the mind and listen.”

“There's a difference between loneliness and aloneness. Loneliness is when being alone causes suffering. But aloneness is ultimately recognizing others as yourself, and when you realize that you are one with everything.”

“At the current state of human evolution, we judge others based on their appearance. Until we learn to love all beings deep down, we will continue hating certain beings. There is only love in oneness.”

“Spirituality to me is about becoming your own therapist. It’s about inner joy and peace so we can be our best version of ourselves. It’s about realizing that everything is connected, that everything has meaning because we give it meaning, awakening from this rollercoaster of life, step off and just marvel at the beauty of it all.”

“Imagine a movie where the camera is shaking all the time. It would be the worst movie you've ever seen. You could barely focus on anything that's going on and you'd probably walk out in five minutes. Stillness is everything. It’s an opportunity to observe our chaotic mind and allow it to settle down no matter what else is happening around us.”

“Everybody lives on because life lives on. We're all the same life force energy. And that will go on forever. Life will go on experiencing the universe just as the universe intended.”

“All suffering is mind-made. Where is suffering in the world? In pain? No. In harsh words people say? How could sounds spoken cause suffering? Suffering only exists in our anticipation of events unfavorable to the mind due to desires not met, or regrets from the past that live as memories in our mind.”

“You are not your trauma. You are not your circumstances. You are that eternal unchanging light of consciousness. Your true nature cannot be hurt. Your body can be hurt, your property can be lost. But no one can touch the real you.”

“There is no beginning and there is no end. When was time born? When will time die? Why would we even think of beginnings and endings? There is only change. We grow from the soil and we will return to it as food for the future.”

“Try to make a habit of looking at things holistically. Focus on examining root causes instead of symptoms and you will be able to create lasting and real change in your life and in the world.”

“During my travels in India I met a man at an ashram who was about 45-50. A little older than everyone else. He tells me a story. He had retired and he was traveling on a motorcycle with his wife on the back. While stopped at a red light, a truck ran into them from behind and killed his wife. He was badly injured and almost died. He went into a coma and it was unclear if he’d ever walk again. When he finally came out of it and found out what had happened, he naturally was devastated and heartbroken. Not to mention physically broken. He knew that his road ahead of rehabilitation, both physically and psychologically, was going to be hard. While he had given up, he had one friend who was a yoga teacher who said, “We're going to get you started on the path to recovery.” So, she kept going over to his place, and through yoga, helped him be able to walk again. After he could walk and move around again, he decided to head to India and explore some yoga ashrams. While he was there he started to learn about meditation and Hinduism and Buddhism. He told me that he never would have thought he’d ever go down this path. He would have probably laughed at anyone who goes to India to find themselves. I asked, “Did you get what you were hoping for?” He said, "Even though I lost my wife, it turned out to be the greatest thing that ever happened to me because it put me on this path.”

“If you were to look at human skin under an electron microscope, you would not be able to tell where the human being begins and ends. There is no fine barrier between the person and the universe. There is just a flow from one thing to the next and the only reason we perceive separateness is because of the limitations of our senses. Human beings can only see .0001 % of the spectrum of light and we can only hear .0001 % of the spectrum of sound. If we could see infrared, and if we could see ultraviolet and x-rays, and energy, and hear the whole spectrum of sounds, the universe would appear very differently, there would be no empty space. It would be so full we would just see this sea of energy and there would only be oneness. There is no separate you. No separateness. There's a deep interconnectedness. There's only oneness.”

“One of the earliest things that happens to almost everybody is they have a moment of this kind of pure bliss, egolessness, and timelessness in meditation. Or, maybe it just comes to them naturally, and immediately their mind says, “That was amazing. I need more of that.” And immediately, as the thinking mind starts, you're pulled out of that state. The mind says, “What was that? I want more of that. Let me analyze that for you.” But true spirituality is about letting go of everything and realizing you’re still whole.”

“Let go of everything you’re holding on to. Let go of all concepts and your sense of identity, the thoughts of how you feel about every little thing, and just be. Just experience and identify with the one who is aware of experience. Everything we experience can only exist because of our conscious awareness. Nothing happens without it.”

“When you can become aware of awareness, that's the higher consciousness and it's within you. So, instead of looking to the universe for a sign, look inward.”

“The right teacher or guide will show themselves to you in your life at the right time when you need it so be aware of what happens and be open to experiences.”

“When you always treat everyone with love and compassion, there’s no reason to worry what others think about you. There’s no reason to doubt or second guess yourself. There's no reason to ever feel regret or shame. You don’t have to give your time and attention to people who don’t appreciate you, but no matter what circumstance you find yourself in, you can always feel confident and at peace knowing you treated others with kindness and grace.”

“Be certain only in uncertainty. It’s ok not to know. In fact it’s better than ok, it’s the truth. If someone claims certainty about something but has no evidence, run.”

“Cherishing yourself leads to misfortune. Cherishing others leads to good fortune. We are social animals. Like all social animals, a person who is selfish will not attract others, but a person who helps others will invite the kindness and company of others.”

“Look close enough at your problems and you’ll see there’s really nothing there at all. Problems only exist in the mind. They’re not real. There are only solutions waiting to be found.”
