Padma Subrahmanyam, born on February 4, 1943, is a celebrated Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and educator, best known for her pioneering research and revitalization of Bharatanatyam. Though primarily a dance artist, she has also appeared in a few film roles, showcasing her versatility. She founded the Padma Subrahmanyam Dance Institute to preserve and innovate traditional Indian dance, training numerous disciples worldwide. Her scholarly work on the ancient treatise Natya Shastra and her inventive choreography have earned her national honors such as the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, making her a pivotal figure in contemporary Indian cultural heritage. more
