Carrie Fisher (October 21, 1956 – December 27, 2016) was an American actress, writer, and screenwriter, best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise. Born into a show business family, she was the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. Fisher's portrayal of the strong-willed princess made her a global pop culture icon. Beyond acting, she was a talented author, writing the semi-autobiographical novel Postcards from the Edge. She was also a vocal advocate for mental health awareness, openly discussing her struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction.
