Geraldine Ferraro was an American attorney and politician who became the first female candidate for Vice President of the United States from the Democratic Party. Born on August 26, 1935, in Newburgh, New York, she served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1974 to 1984. Ferraro's political career was groundbreaking, as she was the first woman to run on a major party's presidential ticket.
