“My hometown, Casenga, had in its location both the great advantage of being in a wonderfully scenic place (nestled between the arms of two mighty mountains and sheltered by a deep and lush forest) and the stark disadvantage of being in the remotest part of our kingdom. The war with Galland overseas kept King Stefano’s attention—and his resources—stretched thin. This left our town in a peculiar situation, awkwardly straddling the proud and civilized country of Romí, and the wild, perilous no-man’s-land that was the Doloria mountain range… the territory of witches.”

“My honey child, them housing projects
Cannot contain her multitudes
A sunbeam, hard upon her
Just a fly strugglin’ through her braid loops
Watch me prove to ‘em I’m more than nothin’
But a ragamuffin with homesick eyes
Yes, when it gets to be the same old thing
Shorty you ought to come and see about me
My love, she is a drummer
Than industrial steel, her backbone tougher
The eloping night and the honey moon that trails
Just dirt ‘neath her finger nails
I’ll be down on them crossroads
‘Til daybreak winks a bright eye
And if it gets to be the same old thing
Shorty you ought to come and see about me
She’s heard all the right things
And they did not persuade her
She has no use for your words
What she wants is your labor
‘Cause when gringos speak of minorities
They tend to keep their voices low
Ah, but when that gets to be the same old thing
Shorty you ought to come and see about me”

“My honors are misunderstanding, pesecution and neglect, enhanced because unsought.”
“My honors thesis project was my first interactive exhibit, in which two facing chairs were activated by a motion sensor when the viewer walked by. One was a cofortable armchair of plush red velvet, with a dildo sticking out of a hole in the seat. When activated, the dildo moved up and down and a strobe light pulsed. The facing chair was hard and uncomfortable, with spikes protruding from the seat, and when the viewer walked by it a dog would bark. The juxtaposition of the two chairs was meant to represent how forces of repression censor the desire for liberation.
In that same exhibition, I showed a handmade box in the shape of a cross, decorated with a beautiful painting of the Holy Trinity. The viewer was encouraged to open the box, where they would find a dildo wrapped in the American flag and nailed to a cross-- this was meant to symbolize the hypocrisy and repression that is hidden under the attractive facade of organized religion. The dildo was surrounded by pages from the Bible, which were themselves surrounded by images of the sickness and starvation caused by the embargo in Iraq, a comment on the effects of imposing one culture and religion on another.”

“My hope and intent is to provide a wide range of resources and ideas that provoke real questions and considerations under the surface of common dialogue. With a definite thrust toward clues for moving beyond limiting patterns that restrict our personal and communal evolution and experience of, as well as effectiveness in, life. Part of that is about giving different angles of insight into the why and how of developing skills, whatever they may be. I think the larger discussion, or maybe the more relevant one surrounding skills development, involves what quality of fuel is being used to run the skill. Inevitably, and very quickly, this enters into considerations of how much of oneself one brings to the show. For example, anyone can learn a sophisticated skill in an extremely short period of time, once they’re completely convinced of the need, benefit and value of doing so and find enough full-bodied conviction to engage it accordingly (“You never hear anyone practicing a language; they simply listen and then begin to speak.” — Wade Davis).”
