He previously served as Lieutenant Governor and Governor of Virginia, and was the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2016, running alongside Hillary Clinton. Kaine also chaired the Democratic National Committee from 2011 to 2017. A lawyer by training, he graduated from Harvard Law School and is fluent in Spanish.
