“Mother is a humble woman. Very, very humble. She toils at a small café one hour distance from our home. She presents food and drink to customers there, and says to me, "I mount the autobus for an hour to work all day doing things I hate. You want to know why? It is for you, Alexi-stop-spleening-me! One day you will do things for me that you hate. That is what it means to be a family." What she does not clutch is that I already do things for her that I hate. I listen to her when she talks to me. I resist complaining about my pygmy allowance. And did I mention that I do not spleen her nearly so much as I desire to? But I do not do these things because we are a family. I do them because they are common decencies. That is an idiom that the hero taught me. I do them because I am not a big fucking asshole. That is another idiom that the hero taught me.”

“Mother is crying at the hands of Man. Through selfish desire, Man has lost his identity, and no longer knows himself in the looking glass. He has forsaken all that is pure and precious, blinded by the devil Greed. The world and her children are dying at the hands of Man — adult Man; innocence has been lost. You must be reminded of who you are and why. I have come here out of love; I don’t want you to forget this when the apocalypse takes hold. Mother and I must be cruel to be kind, just as the bitch dog eats her deformed young. Man must learn to love again as seething hatred has rotted his blackened heart. Man is to be silenced and muzzled like a vicious dog. Man will no longer be able to breathe the air freely. Man will no longer be able to touch, hug, caress, and feel what it is to be human. Man will no longer recognise himself or others because his humanity will be taken from him and he will be muzzled like a rabid dog. Only then will he appreciate what has been taken from him. The world has become a cold place, but it will be colder, until he learns what is to be a warm human being once again. Only when Man has to pay for free things, like air, will he understand what it once was to be a human.”

“Mother is in herself a concrete denial of the idea of sexual pleasure since her sexuality has been placed at the service of reproductive function alone. She is the perpetually violated passive principle; her autonomy has been sufficiently eroded by the presence within her of the embryo she brought to term. “MOTHER IS WATER
I wish I could
Shower your head with flowers
And anoint your feet with my tears,
For I know I have caused you
So much heartache, frustration and despair –
Throughout my youthful years.
I wish I could give you
The remainder of my life
To add to yours,
Or simply erase
The lines on your face,
And mend all that has been torn.
For next to God,
You are the fire
That has given light
To the flame in each of my eyes.
You are the fountain
That nourished my growth,
And from your chalice –
Gave me life.
Without the wetness of your love,
The fragrance of your water,
Or the trickling sounds of
Your voice,
I shall always feel
thirsty.”

“Mother knocked once on my door and walked in my room to see me on my bed with the book tight in my grasp. She looked at my night dress and smiled.
“Expecting company?” She asked.
I flushed. “It was a gift from Aunt Rose. It is only fair that I wear it considering I do not see her that often anymore.” My voice was firm as I looked down at my night dress.
The fabric was silky, and the color was minty-green. It made my skin tone much more noticeable and it made my hair stand out from the rest of me.
“Are you sure you are not expecting Alexander?” She asked me sitting at the edge of my bed with a smile not only on her face, but in her eyes.
“Why do you insist I dress for him?” I returned.
“I did not insist that,” Mother answered softly. “I was simply curious as to why you were wearing it. Plus,” Mother flashed me a bright smile. “I saw Alexander walking around the corridor a few minutes ago.”
My heart raced.
Mother could see my reaction to that and looked back at my night dress. “It is a very pretty dress; I just wish you were to get it in a year or two from now. It seems so….”
“Grown up?” I offered.
“I suppose it does, yes,” Mother agreed quietly. She ran her hand on the lace that covered the bottom rim of the dress and said, “However the word I was going to say was…suggestive.”

“Mother lode of learning.”
“Mother love has been much maligned. An over mothered boy may go through life expecting each new woman to love him the way his mother did. Her love may make any other love seem inadequate. But an unloved boy would be even more likely to idealize love. I don't think it's possible for a mother or father to love a child too much.”
“Mother love is invariably held sacred, as it should be, but why has father love never had its due?”
