Benjamin Hooks was an American civil rights leader, lawyer, and Baptist minister. Born on January 31, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee, he passed away on April 15, 2010. As a prominent figure in the civil rights movement, Hooks served as the executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1977 to 1992.
