Smug Quotes

“Being bigheaded can be as irritating and as dangerous as being small-minded.”

“I hate smug people.” Ros laughed. “That you do. And so you’re using his phone. He’ll explode, you know.” “Oh, it’ll be bad. ‘Cause I made all the phone calls on my list.” There was a pause. “No. You didn’t.” “I did.” “Fifty-one phone calls on the off-limits phone?” “Yup.” “Did you fall down the stairs or something? What is wrong with you?!”

“Randalin rushes toward the door, nearly running into Heather in his haste. He blinks at her in astonishment, clearly not prepared for the presence of a second mortal. Then he departs, avoiding even a glance in my direction. 'Big horns,' Heather mouths, looking after him. 'Little dude.' Cardan leans against the doorframe, looking very satisfied with himself.”

“What?" I said. He rose, shaking the dew from his cloak. "You have that look." He had mirrored my own train of thought, which made me scowl at him irrationally. "Which?" "The one you wear whenever you outsmart me in some area," he said. "Well," I began with a shrug, then stopped. My magnanimity was wearing thin, I'm afraid. "Haven't I?" He laughed, a clear, bright sound, and then, before I knew what was happening, he had lifted me from my feet and spun me through the air, the greenery and shadow of the forest a whirl all around me. "My beloved Emily," he murmured in my ear. "Yes, yes, all right," I said, though I did not pull away. My smugness was back, together with a warm sort of satisfaction. It was pleasing to see him this happy.”

“I'm more dangerous than you think,' I flat-out bluster. 'So I see. I'm quaking in my boots.' The corner of his mouth rises in a mocking smile. Fucking. Asshole. I flip the daggers in my hand, pinching them at the tips, then flick my wrists and fire them past his head, one on each side. They land solidly in the trunk of the tree behind him. 'You missed.' He doesn't even flinch. 'Did I?' I reach for my last two blades. 'Why don't you back up a couple of steps and test that theory?' Curiosity flares in his eyes, but it's gone in the next second, masked by cold, mocking indifference. Every one of my senses is on high alert, but the shadows around me don't slide in as he moves backward, his eyes locked with mine. His back hits the tree, and the hilts of my daggers brush his ears. 'Tell me again that I missed,' I threaten, taking the dagger in my right hand by the tip. 'Fascinating. You look all frail and breakable, but you're really a violent little thing, aren't you?' An appreciative smile curves his perfect lips as shadows dance up the trunk of the oak, taking the form of fingers. They pluck the daggers from the tree and bring them to Xaden's waiting hands.”
