“I met Suffering on a quiet road, just as the sun was setting behind me. Its presence was heavy, like an old coat I had worn for too long. It walked beside me, its voice a whisper carried by the wind. "I know your name," it murmured. "I've been with you for years, through the nights you couldn’t sleep, through the prayers that felt unheard. I know every tear you've shed." I sighed, staring down at the worn path beneath my feet. "I know," I admitted. "You've been my shadow. But why do you stay? Why do you cling to me?" Suffering chuckled, low and knowing. "I don’t choose to stay," it said. "I grow where wounds refuse to heal. Where doubt lingers, where fear feeds the soul. I am not your captor, only your reflection." I stopped walking, the weight of its words settling into my bones. "But I’ve fought. I’ve tried. I’ve prayed for light, for peace. And yet, here you are." Suffering tilted its head, watching me. "And yet, here YOU are," it said. "Still standing. Still walking. Have you ever wondered why?" The question caught me off guard. I turned to face it, really looking for the first time. Suffering was not as menacing as I once believed. It was worn and tired, just like me. A teacher, perhaps, but not a master. "I see now," I said softly. "You are not my enemy. But you are not my home, either." Suffering gave a slow nod. "You understand then." I took a deep breath, straightening my shoulders as the sky deepened into night. "I do. And I choose to thrive." Suffering stilled, then smiled. “You’ve learned my lesson; now walk with God. I do not vanish, but I will bend, For you have chosen to keep growing, my friend.”

“The emotional trinity of resentment, fear, and anger burned like acid reflux in her chest. She'd pushed through the lack of thoughtfulness, excitement, and enthusiasm because people didn't understand the purpose of what she was proposing. She'd dealt with the racism and misogyny of men not taking her seriously because she didn’t look like their idea of a businessperson. She'd burned the candle at both ends—and sometimes on the sides!—to work on the business without compromising any of her music endeavors. And she'd invested her own money to develop and implement this idea she knew had merit. All to get here. To sit at this table and sign a contract that would give her the control and freedom she'd been craving since Nana died when she was fourteen. When people she barely knew began deciding where she would live, what she would wear, and how she would act.”

“I’m interested in becoming a stronger person. To do that, I know I will have to persevere through situations that might tempt me to give up. But I know God will give me the grace and courage I need to deal with things that are hard, and let’s face it: life does get hard sometimes. The world is full of haters and disappointments and mistakes, but we do not have to let those things keep us from reaching our potential. Sometimes people say or do mean things to us, and sometimes circumstances just don’t go our way, but we have to push those things aside and keep moving forward.”

“There are times in our lives when we feel as though we are just one person in a tiny row boat out on an ocean. We feel as though our boat is so tiny---and the ocean is so large. But the truth is: As overwhelming as those seasons are in our lives---they do pass---and we hold fast.....we persevere.....and we Survive to live another day----better and stronger---and with Greater Determination that we had before.”

“Perseverance is action derived from a pure belief in your own strength, even in what seems like total defeat. Just like Pat and my father, I struggled with alcohol. I've stepped close to the edge, lured by the deceitful whispers of the devil who promises that ending it all will bring comfort. My redemption has been a powerful self-realization that my identity is not found in my circumstances or in what happens to me. I am strong. I am my own will made manifest in the world. As you grow in self-awareness, your understanding of your strengths becomes more precise. Be intentional. Take the time to explore your passions and figure out which strengths you most want to cultivate. I don't want you to settle for the role of consumer in this world. I urge you to master the necessary skills to contribute in a meaningful fashion, and to use those skills to make a difference in your own life and the lives of others. It's far too easy to fall into the trap of working a job you hate and living for the weekend. Find a way of breaking out of that paradigm. Don't be afraid of trying hard. Don't be afraid of failing or looking like an idiot. There are no prizes for being cool and collected, but achieving nothing of value. Leave your mark on the world.”

“White men grow on an open, level field. White women grow on far steeper and rougher terrain because the field wasn't made for them. Women of color grow not just on a hill, but on a cliffside over the ocean, battered by wind and waves. None of us chooses the landscape in which we're planted. If you find yourself on an ocean-battered cliff, your only choice is to grow there, or fall into the ocean. So if we transplant a survivor of the steep hill and cliff to the level field, natives of the field may look at that survivor and wonder why she has so much trouble trusting people, systems, and even her own bodily sensations. Why is this tree so bent and gnarled? It's because that is what it took to survive in the place where she grew. A tree that's fought wind and gravity and erosion to grow strong and green on a steep cliff is going to look strange and out of place when moved to the level playing field. The gnarled, wind-blown tree from an oceanside cliff might not conform with our ideas of what a tree should look like, but it works well in the context where it grew. And that tall straight tree wouldn't stand a chance if it was transplanted to the cliffside.”

“You have broken my heart. Just as well. Now I am learning to rise above all that, learning the thin life, waking up simply to praise everything in this world that is strong and beautiful always—the trees, the rocks, the fields, the news from heaven, the laughter that comes back all the same. Just as well. Time to read books, rake the lawn in peace, sweep the floor, scour the faces of the pans, anything. And I have been so diligent it is almost over, I am growing myself as strong as rock, as a tree which, if I put my arms around it, does not lean away.”

Usifiche vipaji vyako. Ukiwa kimya utasahaulika. Usipopiga hatua utarudi nyuma. Usiwe na hasira, wivu au ubinafsi.”

“Common man's patience will bring him more happiness than common man's power.”

“A leader’s meal is that unstoppable desire to stay late to see his dreams achieved. They never give up.”

“If you lack open communication and honesty in your life – It’s time to look within. Are you someone who handles heavy, emotional, or tough information well or do you often get excessively agitated, upset, or depressed? My rule of thumb is that no topic ‘should’ ever be off limits with a loved one. That is the goal to work towards. The point being, if you’re easy to talk to, people will talk to you! If you’re not, then they won’t!”

“You may work with 100% capacity every day and may not be seen by anybody for recommendation. This does not mean you should give up! The day you will decide to work at 40% may be the day you'll be seen by the person who is meant to recommend you for higher profile opportunities!”

“It is only by persistent focus on your dreams; you will pull all the divine forces for the passion of fulfilled dream.”

“Discover a purpose that gives you passion. Develop a plan that makes you persistent. Design a preparation and motivates you to optimize your potentials. Do it because you love it!”
