“Languages, like our bodies, are in a perpetual flux, and stand in need of recruits to supply those words that are continually falling, through disuse.”

“Lani and Alva had decided on molten upside-down cakes. If there were laws on the amount of chocolate one cupcake could have, molten cakes would break every one of them. The cake was her take on devil's food, the filling was was a melted, gooey blend of dark and Dutched chocolates with a spicy kick thrown in, and the glaze was a thick, glossy chocolate ganache. Alva declared them heavenly.”

“Lani couldn't respond. She was too busy reveling in just how amazing they felt, joined. She'd thought maybe it was the delirium of the first time that had her thinking rosy thoughts. Well, and the second time. And the third.
"How is it even better this time? How?" she panted, moving on top of him.
She squealed an instant later when she found herself neatly on her back once again. He pushed deeper, and growled a little. "Am I hurtin' you?"
"No. Don't stop," she panted, then growled a little herself as he thrust into her, again and again. She knew now, when he was fully beyond controlling himself, bits and pieces of his childhood accent resurfaced. For whatever reason, that was just hot as hell to her. It was earthy, primal.
"Oh," she said, then, "Oh!" when he pulled her thighs up higher along his waist, tilting her so she was just at the right angle to-
"How do you- do that?" she managed. That was it as the crescendo of sensation washed up and over, taking her on a hard, fast ride in to shore.”

“Lao Tsu always points a finger directly to us. He says we must begin with ourselves. It's impossible to bring order into the world unless we bring order into ourselves.”
“Lao Tsu doesn't seem to hold to much stock for words or phrases or teachings.”
“Lao Tsu found Taoism easy to reconcile withthe world of human beings, which is interesting because with all the nature imagery, one might think it was in some way antithetical to contempory life.”
“Lao Tsu says the way of life is ancient, timeless. It is existence which he calls the Tao - a mysterious source, beyond understanding, and all of us are a reflection, if not that source of life ourselves.”
“Lao Tsu says the way of life is water, to be fluid.”
“Lao Tsu uses the anology of the tree. The old hard tree breaks and falls when the wind blows. The young tree bends and does not break. He advises us to bend and not to break.”
“Lao Tzu once said, 'Nature doesn’t hurry, yet everything is accomplished.'
A single seed planted, eventually becomes a garden in time – when things get tough, tend to the garden in your mind.”
“Lao Tzu's first paragraph in the book "Tao Te Ching" is that the Tao that can be told is not the absolute Tao.
Lao Tzu has his own logic, the logic of paradoxes, the logic of life.
To understand Tao, you will have to create eyes.
Lao Tzu believes in the unity of opposites, because that is how life is.
The Tao can be communicated, but it can only be communicated from heart to heart, from being to being, from love to love, from silence to silence.
Truth is always realized in silence. In silence, the truth is realized.
You reach to truth through silence.
All spiritual books tries to say something that can not be said in the hope that a thirst, a longing, is created in your heart to know the truth.
Tao is totality. Life exists through the tension of the opposites, the meeting of the opposites.
Lao Tzu says that the opposite poles of life are not really opposites, but complementaries.
Thinking is always of opposites. Lao Tzu says: drop the split attitude. Be simple.
And when you are simple, you do not choose. Lao Tzu says: be choiceless, let life flow.
Enjoy both poles in life, and then your life becomes a symphony of opposites.
How to drop the mind: do not choose. If you do not choose, the mind drops.
Live life as it comes - float. Float with life. Enjoy the moment in its totality,
It is to live as part of the whole, to live as part of existence.
If you become silent and empty, everything will come on it's own accord.
When you live without any desire for power, position, fame or success, the whole existence pours down into your emptiness.”
“Lao Tzu says: "Accept yourself. Non-acceptance is the root of all the trouble." None of us accept ourselves. The more a person doesn't accept himself, the greater a mahatma he looks to others to be. We are our greatest enemy. If we had our way, we would cut ourselves to pieces in order to remove what was unacceptable.”
“Lao-tze's Taoism is the exhibition of a way or method of living which men should cultivate as the highest and purest development of their nature.”
“LAOCOON, n. A famous piece of antique scripture representing a priest of that name and his two sons in the folds of two enormous serpents. The skill and diligence with which the old man and lads support the serpents and keep them up to their work have been justly regarded as one of the noblest artistic illustrations of the mastery of human intelligence over brute inertia.”

“Laos is the most heavily bombed country in the history of the world. From 1964 to 1973, the United States dropped more than two million tons of ordnance on Laos to disrupt the Ho Chi Minh Trail and try to stanch a Communist insurgency—more than was dropped on all of Germany and Japan during World War II. There were 580,000 bombing missions, which averages out to one every eight minutes for nine years. Sometimes, U.S. planes returning to Thailand from missions over Vietnam indiscriminately dropped their remaining bombs on Laos. More than 270 million cluster munitions—“bombies”—were used, and 80 million of them failed to detonate. In the four decades since the end of the war, only 1 percent have been cleared. More than fifty thousand people have been killed or injured in UXO accidents; over the last decade, nearly half of those casualties have been children.”

“Lap-dogs and blood-hounds enjoy the greatest respect at court; house-dogs and no dogs at all are not even considered.”
“Laplace considers astronomy a science of observation, because we can only observe the movements of the planets; we cannot reach them, indeed, to alter their course and to experiment with them. "On earth," said Laplace, "we make phenomena vary by experiments; in the sky, we carefully define all the phenomena presented to us by celestial motion." Certain physicians call medicine a science of observations, because they wrongly think that experimentation is inapplicable to it.”

Lapsen muisti on lahjomaton, vaikka me aikuiset toivoisimme, ettei aivan kaikki tapahtunut olisi jättänyt jälkeä.”

Tuo "epämääräinen ahdistus" on jokaiselle neruoosipotilaalle tuttu.
Siihen kätkeytyy näet lapselle suoranaisesti tuhoa ennustava, mutta jotakuinkin hahmottomaksi jäävä ajatus, jonka lapsi on sanattomasti aavistanut: "Emme välitä sinusta, oikeastaan haluaisimme vapautua sinusta!"

“Lara, Lara, Lara. Her name was a drum against his skull. The pain of it was excruciating—incomparable.”
“Lara's gaze met his. His dark eyes gleamed with amusement. Her breath caught as she accidentally touched the hard surface of his midriff, his heat filtering through the thin linen shirt. She snatched her hand back at once. "Excuse me, I-"
"No." He caught her wrist swiftly, enclosing it in a gentle grip.
They stared at each other, frozen in a quiet tableau. Hunter exerted only a light tension on her wrist. It would be so easy for him to pull her forward, bring her tumbling into his lap, but he held still. It seemed as if he were waiting for something, his expression arrested, his chest rising and falling in a rhythm much faster than normal. Lara sensed that if she took one step toward him, he would pull her into his arms... Her nerves clamored with excited alarm at the prospect. She looked at his mouth, remembered the warmth and taste of him... Yes, she wanted him to kiss her... but before she could move her leaden feet, Hunter released her with a crooked smile.”

“Lara smiled. Not a soft smile, no—a cruel smile, filled with malice and enmity. A smile worn by tyrants and murderers and deviants.”
“Lara stood by the bed, her face stark white, slender arms wrapped tightly around herself. From her rigid posture, it was clear that she was using every ounce of self-control to keep from bolting. She looked like an angel, her body clad in layers of white muslin, her hair gathered in a dark shining stream over her shoulder. Remembering the firm tenderness of her breasts and hips in his hands, the sweetness of her mouth beneath his, Hunter felt a smoldering heat begin in his groin. He couldn't ever remember wanting a woman like this, craving the feel and scent and taste of her with every fiber of his being.”

“Lara walked along the tracks following a path worn by pilgrims and then turned into the fields. Here she stopped and, closing her eyes, took a deep breath of the flower-scented air of the broad expanse around her. It was dearer to her than her kin, better than a lover, wiser than a book. For a moment she rediscovered the purpose of her life. She was here on earth to grasp the meaning of its wild enchantment and to call each thing by its right name, or, if this were not within her power, to give birth out of love for life to successors who would do it in her place.”
